We met with the Employer today regarding our Counterproposal. We have been bargaining for the past several months. Initially we had tabled a steamlined proposal in order to achieve one year deal (expiring March 31, 2009) to bring us to Central timelines. We were also asking for improvements in the Layoff/Voluntary Exit language in order to enhance opportunities with the pending layoffs.

We do have a number of non-monetary issues agreed to, however the Employer is not in agreement with our monetary proposals which mirrored the Central rates. Due to this development, we have advised the Employer that we will be applying for conciliation and will be with a mandate to bargain further proposals to attempt to get the best deal possible. We have requested future bargaining dates and are awaiting a response from the Employer.
